Are You Really Going To Drink That? Why You Need A Water Filter and How To Choose The Best One edition by Bryan Stevens Health Fitness Dieting eBooks
The author, a master plumber, clearly knows the need for and the pros and cons of the various types of water filters for households. For someone with little prior knowledge of water filters, this is a good primer. It's not too technical and doesn't give much background or supporting science. For someone who has looked into water filters already, such as me, this book left me wanting more. It would have benefited greatly from some photos or drawings of the various systems. The author noted a couple of recommended brands, but there was no discussion or comparison of the most common brands or types of filters that most consumers will run into at typical hardware or department stores.Product details

Are You Really Going To Drink That? Why You Need A Water Filter and How To Choose The Best One edition by Bryan Stevens Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
The quality of the tap water here in the Washington, DC Metro area really isn't fit for drinking. After all, it's simply filtered sewage. I tried going with a Brita pitcher for a while, but I found it to be clumsy and the water really didn't taste all that great either. Since then, I've resorted to purchasing bottled water by the case. I realize that it's simply overpriced tap water, but it tastes a whole lot better. The downside of course is pretty steep in terms of the cost and as well as the harmful effects on the environment with all those empty plastic bottles that quickly accumulate. I have been thinking about looking into water filtration systems for a while now, but just haven't had the time to do the research and it also requires some care in order to "filter" through a lot of the results that Google returns to find reliable info.
This book was exactly what I needed and at the right time as well. The author is a master plumber, so he knows of what he speaks. The first few chapters are pretty convincing as to why you really need to consider some form of water filtration. Though the author doesn't bash the EPA, it's pretty clear that we can't rely on them to protect us from the multitude of contaminants in public drinking water - that responsibility is ours and ours alone.
The book is a quick read, more of a report actually, but it contains all of the essential information as well as recommendations for various types of filtration systems. I was initially just concerned about filtering my drinking water, but the author also opened my eyes about the dangers of showering in unfiltered water. Vaporized chlorine isn't the best thing to inhale while taking a hot shower and you also don't want chlorine drying out your skin and hair.
This book helped me focus in on the right kind of water filtration system for my needs. If you care about your health and that of your loved ones as well as the state of the environment, you really need to read this book.
Very informative book....as it states "you will never look at water the same again". As far as bottled water goes, I never could understand the fascination with it. When this bottled water fad started, I figured people would wise up at the amount of money they were spending on it and it would die out. Obviously I was wrong.
We have a whole house/reverse-osmosis system as we live in a rural area with extremely hard well water. As stated in the book, it does take up a lot of under sink space, and since we have cattle, the backwash has to be timed so that it runs at a time when the cattle probably won't be drinking, but the difference in our drinking water is worth it.
Overall this book provides great references and important information. Every homeowner considering the very best solution for their water would benefit from reading it...and the price sure can't be beat!

The Truth About Sarcoidosis
This is a very short book with limited content. I would have expected the book to provide data on other water filtration systems other than the one that the author installed in their home and thought it was good. There is no explanation on the stages of water filtration systems and what is the difference between a one and a seven stage system. How are we supposed to make a decision on what to buy when there is no comparison of systems and their performance level. I believe I could have got better information on water from the Internet.
Though this book has some age, it was still very informative and honest. Straight forward and easy to read. Reading this certainly calmed the waters as I navigated my way towards making a decision about the type of system to install in our home.
Ok the title of this review is not a literary masterpiece but after reading this book I couldn't think of another way to describe the huge range of chemicals and other disease causing bacteria that is found in water. What was equally surprising was the acknowledgement by some local authorities that they know the health of the water isn't that good, but they base their reports on "it won't kill you today" - I didn't know there can be cancer causing elements in the water we drink.
What I really like about this book is that not only does the author clearly state the problems found in the water that comes from our taps and from bottled water, but he then goes on to explain about the different options that a home owner can use to eliminate some or all of the nasty stuff in our water system. The chapters are well laid out and follow a logical order - the writing is clear and straightforward; the author really knows his stuff. I would recommend this book to any mother or couple who are worried about the impact their drinking water can have on the health of their children and themselves.

This would have worked better as a web site or article. It is very basic information with, what I feel were, a lot of holes. There was basically nothing in here that I did not already know. One specific complaint is that the author includes a list of common contaminants and how to filter them. However, most of the less common contaminants require "specific filters" to filter. That is all he says..."specific filters". No kidding.! What kind of special filters? I found that information to be useless. Maybe I expected too much.
